In an attempt to get a piece of the mail service pie, Microsoft is launching a replacement to its clunky hotmail interface. It is expected to pull users away from the dominating yahoo and gmail services. It will utilize exchange and activesync allowing for cross platform use for a single account, eventually opening up possibilities to be woven with social media exchange as well. The service will feature a special set of Outlook apps and web versions of Excel, Powerpoint and other web-office products. The @outlook.com domain is available now and users with @hotmail.com and @msn.com or @live.com can still login via the Outlook.com portal to take advantage of its features.
